One-on-One Counselling
Estrangement from an adult child can leave you with questions, uncertainty and situations that are difficult to work through on your own. One-on-one counselling provides a private space to talk about your experience of estrangement and what is happening in your life, with an experienced social work counsellor.
The workshops and support groups offer opportunities to learn about estrangement and connect with others, while one-on-one counselling gives you the space to explore your own experience more deeply and focus on the things that are unique to you and your situation. You can bring whatever is important to you and get the therapeutic support you need.
Sessions offer guidance, practical strategies and therapeutic support as you work through your situation and consider what you want to do next. The focus is on your experience and what is useful to you.
Sessions are online or can be face to face if you live locally (let me know your location when you book)
What can we work on?
Counselling may be useful if you are trying to:
- make sense of what has happened
- work out how to respond to a particular situation
- decide whether or how to communicate with your adult child
- manage the uncertainty of estrangement
- navigate options if your child has reached out to you
- cope with grief and loss
- navigate the impact on other family relationships
- work out how to look after yourself
- consider what you want to do next
Your session
Sessions are 90 minutes and conducted online. You don't need to arrive with a clear agenda or know exactly what you want to talk about. The session can focus on whatever feels most important to you at the time. I use a Single Session Therapy model with a variety of therapeutic modalities. Feel free to ask more about my therapeutic practice!
